What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?
I saw care personally as a healing therapy, I enjoyed the accolades as I took care of family, I felt special and unique doing what others could not.
What inspired you to join Right at Home?
After working with several care agencies, the RAH culture is unique. The fact that the MD was available on induction day, (very humble) the MD sends personalised emails to all staff, transparency in their actions/payroll, quick and easy access to staff and information, the holiday savings, a platform for sharing ideas etc, RAH rewards hard work, a friendly and safe environment to work, I enjoy working all these and more made me stay. I understand no one is perfect but RAH tries to be in their administration by listening to others and implementing.
What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?
What I find most rewarding is the fact that I have gained lots of experiences, I am better version of myself, I feel fulfilled knowing I am adding value to people, the immerse appreciation, the awesome comments from colleagues, an elevated confidence in myself which wasn’t there even as a sales manager abroad. Knowing I can further my studies in this field of humanities.
What does a typical day look like for you?
As a live in carer I am busy providing companionship through which I get to know my client better, and observing changes in behaviour in the client, cooking choice of meals, cleaning the premises, welcoming other colleagues for double ups with the client in focus, my day to evening are always busy.
Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?
A memorable moment was at my first placement when a very difficult client with end stage dementia who no one could understand, his triggers, he allowed only me to give him an all round support, and care which no caregiver could do for three years of care with him. I did this in 3 weeks we became best of friends until he was moved into a care home, this was so emotional as he shedded tears, he said anyone will be blessed to have me as we said our final goodbyes. That was when I knew I had something special in me because I had not been trained on dementia before this placement. Since then my journey as a care giver has been fantastic with wonderful reviews from clients.
What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?
I do a lot of cardio exercises, monitor my health and diet, watch documentaries, listen to NEWS, shopping, worship and keep up with family abroad
What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?
I am not a certified teacher, or psychologist but I have the talent to teach.
