Raising Awareness Through Dementia Friends Ambassador Programme

Published: 06/02/2025
Claire and I are honoured to be part of the Dementia Friends Ambassador programme, an initiative by the Alzheimer’s Society designed to increase awareness about dementia and its impact on individuals and communities. Through this role, we deliver Information Sessions to local groups, sharing insights about what dementia is, how it presents, and how to engage with and support those living with it.
A key message we share is that living well with dementia is possible. Unfortunately, misconceptions about the condition often lead to misunderstandings or a lack of meaningful support. Our sessions aim to dispel myths, highlight the challenges faced by individuals with dementia, and offer practical ways to create a more supportive community. By fostering understanding, we hope to build an environment where those affected by dementia feel respected and included.
In Aylesbury, there is already a strong commitment to raising dementia awareness. The Town Council, in collaboration with organisations like Age UK Buckinghamshire and Buckinghamshire Council, has been instrumental in creating a dementia-friendly community. These efforts ensure that individuals with dementia can engage confidently with council services and other aspects of community life. Additionally, the Alzheimer’s Society’s Singing for the Brain sessions in Aylesbury and Beaconsfield provide an invaluable opportunity for people living with dementia to enjoy an afternoon of music and enjoy the benefits of social connection and cognitive stimulation.
At Right at Home Aylesbury Vale & Chiltern, we are dedicated to supporting Clients with dementia through highly personalised care. Our CareGivers are trained to address the unique challenges of dementia with empathy and skill, helping Clients maintain independence and quality of life.
