Our Recent Visit to Calibre Audio

At Right at Home, we’re always on the lookout for services and resources that can enhance the lives of our Clients. Recently, I visited Calibre Audio, a charity based in Aylesbury. Founded in 1974, Calibre Audio initially began as a small cassette library serving local members who were unable to access printed material due to visual impairment or other conditions that prevent reading.
Today, Calibre Audio has grown to support members across the UK. Its extensive library offers books from every genre, including the latest publications from popular authors and novelists. The service is entirely free to its members, delivering over 2,000 USB sticks daily via post. Each USB stick contains a single audiobook, bringing the joy of literature to thousands.
As Calibre Audio celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it continues to innovate, offering a fully equipped recording studio where volunteers can record books for the library either on-site or from home.
This service could be a life-enriching resource for many of our Clients, especially those who have lost the ability to read due to age or medical conditions. Regaining access to books through Calibre Audio offers not only entertainment but also a renewed sense of independence and connection to the world, which is exactly what we want for all our Clients.
