Sherfield on Loddon is a beautiful village to the north of Basingstoke. The presence of the River Loddon means there is a long history of milling. The first mill was reported in 1306 and by the early 1600's there were four. Longbridge Mill, the only remaining mill on the river here had one of the largest water wheels in Hampshire capable of produciing circa 100 horsepower to operate 4 pairs of stones.
