Fun Fact: The infamous highwayman Dick Turpin is said to have hidden in Felsted during his criminal activities. The village's historical connections to this notorious figure add a touch of intrigue to its past.

A Short History of Felsted

Felsted is a beautiful and charming village in Essex. It is steeped in history that dates back many centuries. The settlement's name, derived from the Old English "feld" (meaning open land) and "stede" (denoting a place), highlights its ancient origins as an open, inhabitable area. The village has a rich agricultural history, with fertile fields and meadows providing sustenance for its inhabitants.

Felsted is renowned for its prestigious educational institution, one of the UK's oldest public schools, Felsted School. It was founded in 1564, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, and this historic school has played a significant role in the village's development. The school's architecture, including the beautiful 16th-century school building, adds to the village's charm and historical significance.

St. Mary's Church, a Norman-era church with its stunning architecture, stands as a testament to Felsted's historical and ecclesiastical heritage. The church is pictured in the banner at the top of this page. The village also has well-preserved medieval buildings, including timber-framed cottages and thatched roofs, providing a window into a bygone era.

Throughout its history, Felsted has evolved while preserving its quintessential English feel and character. The village has traditional cottages, a Norman-era church, and a lively local community. Its enduring heritage, coupled with its educational heritage, makes Felsted a captivating destination for those interested in exploring the history of rural England.

Fun Fact: A Flitch Trial is an award of a flitch of bacon to married couples from anywhere in the world, if they can satisfy the Judge and Jury of 6 maidens and 6 bachelors that in 'twelvemonth and a day', they have 'not wisht themselves unmarried again'.

In 1851 a couple from Felsted were refused a flitch trial at the Priory, but obtained a flitch from the people of Great Dunmow who felt that they deserved it.

Our Approach & Our Ethos

We are private client provider that takes time to get to know you and your family when planning the provision of care. We tend to have longer call durations so the team can build up a trusting and lasting relationship with our Clients.

We provide person centred care by tailoring care services to the unique needs and preferences of each individual. We aim to treat every client with respect and dignity, promoting their independence and well-being.

Caregivers employed by us are chosen not only for their skills but also for their compassion and empathy.

We maintain a high standard of professionalism in all aspects of our service. This includes highly trained caregivers, transparent communication and adherence to ethical and legal guidelines.

We are dedicated to delivering excellence in care. We continually seek to improve our services. We have high expectations of ourselves and a key part of our ethos is that we do not provide rushed care. This is why we are consistently rated as one of the best providers in the area. How Does It Work?

At the point where you are confident about going ahead with a care package, we will organise a time for one of the team come and visit you at home and conduct a care assessment. We'll then create a bespoke care plan based on everything we have learned about you.

The start date for the support package could be a couple of days after the assessment, or a couple of weeks, depending on your preference.

We like to get off to a good start and the time invested at the beginning is a part of this. There are often small changes needed over the first few weeks in order that we get things right, and we will work with you and family members to make sure everything is working in the best way possible.

We have regular touchpoints with clients to review the care package. If there is anything you would like to change, we will listen and implement it as soon as possible. We conduct regular in-person assessments of our CareGivers. This process allows us to see first hand the excellent work our trusted team is doing, and gives us the opportunity to recognise it and encourage it further. It also allows us to identify any development areas in order to maintain our high standards.

Fun Fact: The village hosts a variety of local events and festivals throughout the year, including the Music Festivals and the Felsted 10K run.

Live-In Care Services in Felsted

Right at Home Bishop's Stortford & Braintree can provide you or your loved one with a live-in CareGiver. This is an excellent alternative to residential care and can enable you to stay at home even if you have more advanced care and support needs.

Live-in care can be more cost effective than residential care, especially for couples.

Each live-in care arrangement is different and we try to create a comfortable situation where everybody is happy. So how does it work? Our live-in carer would need their own room and a break during the day. While in the house with you, our live-in carer will follow the same bespoke care plan as we have for all of our clients. We would work with you to find the most appropriate person who can stay for a period of time that suits both yourself and our live-in carer.

Most people do not think too much about care provision until they really need to and it can be overwhelming when trying to work out the best route to take. If you would like to find out more about live-in care, or any of our other services, please do contact our friendly team today at Right at Home Bishop's Stortford & Braintree.
