What Makes Right at Home Different for Clients in Dunmow?

We are an independently-owned franchise within a franchise network whose no.1 priority is quality. Right at Home is widely recognised as a top UK home care provider - in 2023 homecare.co.uk placed us as the third best-rated provider in the UK. This was even more remarkable because of Right at Home's relative size vs the top 5. We were at least 11 times bigger than the others.

We operate like a family because we share the same values: we are led by people driven to provide quality care to you or your loved one, and all new team members are expected to share these values as well.

We have a preferred minimum time of 1 hour for each visit because we do not believe in rushed care. Our aim is to create trusting and lasting relationships with all of our Clients.

Right at Home Bishop's Stortford and Braintree takes the time to understand your specific circumstances and how you would like to be supported. We create detailed and bespoke plans for every client so that the CareGivers are fully equipped to support you in a personal way.

Fun Fact: A Great Dunmow man, Alex Webb, was named the winner of MasterChef: The Professionals in 2020. Alex started his life in Dunmow, and was a pupil at Helena Romanes School.

What Happens When You Request Homecare From Us?

We invest time at the beginning to make sure we have the best possible chance of success. This will typically involve detailed discussions over the phone, although you are more than welcome to come into the office in person to discuss this.

Once you are ready to proceed with a care package, we will arrange a home assessment visit by one of our senior team members. This usually lasts around two hours and the purpose is to gather the additional information we need in order to create a bespoke care and support plan.

At this point, we are normally working on an expected start date, which could anything from 24 hours to a few weeks after the assessment, depending on your preference.

We prioritise getting off to a good start, investing time initially to ensure everything is set up correctly. Small adjustments are often needed in the first few days and weeks, and we work closely with you and your family to ensure the care is exactly how you want it.

We have regular touchpoints with Clients to review and adjust the care package as needed. If you wish to make any changes, we will listen to them and implement them promptly.

Right at Home Bishop's Stortford & Braintree also conducts regular in-person assessments of our CareGivers. This process allows us to observe the excellent work our trusted team performs, recognise and encourage their efforts, and identify any areas needing improvement to maintain our high standards.

Live-in Care

Right at Home Bishop's Stortford and Braintree offers live-in care as an alternative to residential care. Live-in care can be a cost-effective alternative, allowing you to stay in your home even if you need relatively advanced levels of care or support.

Live-in care is becoming increasingly popular because people will often choose to stay at home if offered the opportunity. In terms of the initial requirements, you will need to have a spare room for the live-in CareGiver to stay in. The CareGiver will also need a regular break of ~2 hours per day, where they can switch off. Everything from this point, such as food arrangements and length of stay, is relatively flexible.

The CareGiver will usually work for around 10 hours per day. The CareGiver's length of stay depends on the individual circumstances of each client. We always try to work to a timetable and create the conditions that our Clients are comfortable with.

Live-in care is popular because it allows you to remain in your familiar surroundings, avoiding the disruption of moving into residential care. You can stay with your cherished memories and possessions, focusing on activities you enjoy, whether it’s watching your favourite TV shows, tinkering around the house, gardening, or welcoming friends and family into your home. Your CareGiver is there to assist as much or as little as you need.

Regarding meals, we strive to accommodate our Clients’ preferences. Typically, our CareGivers assist with meal preparation and dine with our Clients, but we'll be guided by our Client here to make sure it is working on their terms.

Often, Clients develop a special bond with their CareGiver, who becomes both a lifelong companion and a carer. Live-in care also enables Clients to continue enjoying the company of their beloved pets.

We have prepared a video that gives an overview of our live-in care service, which you can view clicking on the embedded video on this page. We have also written a blog on live-in care, which you can view by clicking here.

If you would like some guidance on how you may benefit from our live-in care service in Great Dunmow, contact us today at Right at Home Bishop's Stortford & Braintree. We will be happy to spend time with you over the phone to see whether our service is appropriate for you.

Fun Fact: Great Dunmow is home to a historic and picturesque building known as the "Dunmow Maltings." This is one of the oldest surviving maltings in the United Kingdom. The Dunmow Maltings was constructed in the 16th century and was used for the malting and brewing of beer, a vital industry in England at the time.

Today, the Dunmow Maltings is a Grade II* listed building, and while it is no longer used for brewing, it remains a fascinating piece of local history. It's a great example of the architectural and industrial heritage of the area, and it's also a charming place to visit if you're interested in historical buildings.
