Shenley, a village in south-west Hertfordshire, sits on a plateau at the top of a hill between the towns of St Albans and Barnet it is Famous for its eighteenth century lock-up and village pond as well and is beautifully surrounded by farmland with expansive views across open countryside.
As such a hundred years ago wealthy merchants and professionals frequented the landed estates in and around Shenley and in their wake came tradesmen, craftsmen, farm workers and a small army of gardeners, grooms, coachmen, butlers, cooks and maids who were needed to keep the estates running.
