Client Testimonials
Our client lives with husband who is her main carer. Both our client and her husband are in their seventies. The client has vascular dementia and lives with osteoarthritis. She has limited communication, although carers use the client's known facial expressions and her limited speech to communicate with her.
The client used to travel in the family car to visit relatives and attend the weekly Church service with her husband. Our client had not been able to receive a specialist mobility car due to her age and circumstances. As she became less and less mobile, she was unable to attend Church on Sundays with her husband. Right at Home looked at their circumstances and decided to raise funds to enable our client to purchase a second-hand mobility car. A 'just giving' funding page was set up. The team also arranged a sponsored walk and discussed the idea with both the client and her husband. Theresa (our field care manager) led the development of posters to promote the walk in the community. The sponsored walk was completed in August 2018 and raised a total of £1,275.00.
Our client and her husband were presented with the money and whilst this contributed to purchasing the car, the husband was especially ecstatic around how caring and compassionate the team had been.
Colin, Registered Manager, was able to source a suitable mobility car that met the client's requirements. Although our client was unable to personally collect the car, her husband accompanied Theresa, after she had finished work, in her car to purchase and pick up the car from Cardiff.
Our client lives independently in his own flat following the sad passing of his parents. He has a mild learning disability and suffers with anxiety. Growing up our client was not given the opportunity to learn how to read or write, leading to him relying heavily on his family.
When we first supported our client, his brother has guardianship of his finances. He was desperate to gain the control of his finances. Theresa was and remains his care coordinator, and Theresa worked with Chris and his team of carers to support his reading and writing.
We ensured a select team of carers went in to see our client for each of his visits, that were able to support him to gain confidence with reading and writing. The carers write a 'word of the day', which is decided by our client.
Earlier this year our client has gained complete control of his finances which was a massive achievement. The team of carers were at the forefront of this amazing achievement! Due to this our client was able to pay to go on holiday to Devon, which the team arranged with Colin (Registered Manager), who took the client for a long weekend in Devon.
Not only has our client gained control of his finances, due to the carers ongoing support and encouragement, he now loves reading books. His recent favourite being 'The Giant Turnip' and he is excited to start 'The Wizard of Oz'.
We have been supporting our client for over 4 years. He has frontal lobe dementia and is highly reliant on his wife.
Our client's wife had an appointment at the hospital recently, which we arranged to take her to and also provide respite for our client in her absence. His wife had to stay in hospital longer than planned due to her health. We arranged for the carer to stay with the client until a friend was able to relieve them.
Theresa (our field care manager) then went out to pick our client's wife up from the hospital in her own time, and ensured she had everything she needed on her return home.
Theresa has also got puppy pads and bits for the house for the client throughout her time supporting him. This is always in her own time, and means so much to our client and his wife.
