Community Lunch Club Celebrates a Successful Year.
Right at Home Bristol opened a Community Lunch Club in Kingswood, Bristol in January 2023.
At Lunch Club we have been able to celebrate many different occasions together, some of these include Easter, Chinese New Year, The King’s Coronation, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas and more.
We have also had lots of visitors throughout the year including Age UK, Nom Wholefoods, South Gloucestershire Council, Alive Activities, The Park Primary School and Julian Burr Photography. We look forward to working with these again and adding more to the list.
When Lunch Club first opened in January three people attended and now on average there are fifteen plus attendees each week.
Bernadette our Community Coordinator said:
“It has been lovely to run these sessions! We have such a lovely, friendly, and welcoming group and I’m looking forward to this growing in the future.
Our partnership with The Park Primary has gone really well and the intergenerational activities are a benefit to all involved.
We have been fortunate enough to celebrate a lot together and it’s really nice to see new friendships and relationships forming.
Our one year celebration was a chance for us to give a little back to the people who have supported us throughout the year, it was a lovely celebration.”
To celebrate our first milestone we invited friends, family and businesses who have supported the sessions along to enjoy some live music from Theresa Sims, this was followed by a celebration cake.
Everyone who attended the session had a lovely time and they joined in with singing and dancing, it was a lovely atmosphere and a great way to celebrate.
Here’s what a family member (and local PCSO) had to say:
“My mum has been attending the Right at Home Friday Lunch Club for nearly as long as it’s been open. Mum has dementia and is lonely, but the club gives offers her a lifeline.
When at the club mum engages with other members who don’t have dementia, and this is really beneficial to her. Together the members engage in lots of activities, have visitors, and have a wholesome lunch. Bernadette and her team are amazing! they really look after the club members and show care and compassion toward all who attend.
I was lucky to attend the year celebration with one of my friends, mum was supposed to be with us, but she forgot and went out on a bus ride! The singer was great and had everyone singing along and dancing, there was also a fabulous cake.
The club is a lifeline to its members, I am so grateful to Bernadette and the Right at Home team for giving mum the opportunity to come to Lunch Club and have a lovely time. It means a lot to us that mum spends time with lovely people in a place where she's not defined by her illness.”
We look forward to welcoming new members and seeing what the future holds for Lunch Club.
