Jenny

Community Relations Manager

Right at Home’s commitment to being a part of the local community has been reaffirmed by the appointment of Jenny Thornton into the new role of Community Relations Manager.

Jenny’s early career began in retail where she ran management training for various department stores. An interest in wellbeing, led her to become self-employed and running events and business development work for organisations in the wellbeing sector.

A chance meeting with our Managing Director, Alastair Shanks led to a change of direction for Jenny and in 2024 she joined Right at Home. Jenny saw the timing of her move to Right at Home as being most opportune and says: “I am at the perfect age to look to the future and put myself in the shoes of those who need care. This empathy puts me in a good position to build a rapport with potential new clients.”

As President of Camberley Toastmasters and President of Camberley Rotary Club, Jenny came into the role with a huge number of contacts. These community connections have enabled Jenny to win support from local business and organisations for a number of initiatives including a fundraising fire walk and four new dementia cafes.

Jenny is well-known locally for her energy and has a reputation for getting things done. Her creativity is often called upon with one of her most recent projects being the writing of a fundraising murder mystery game for the Mayor of Surrey Heath.

Asked what she does when she is not at work, Jenny said: “I get intellectual stimulation from developing speeches for Toastmasters and fundraising for Rotary and when I need thinking time, I walk my dogs at the Frimley Fuel Allotments. To relax, I take a dip in my hot tub which simmers at a very comfortable 40 degrees and for fitness I swim three times a week for an hour which gives me time out of my thought processes.

As well as her children, the other great loves in Jenny’s life are her dogs – a border terrier and a dachshund. She can often be found walking them along with her daughter’s Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Jenny is keen to expand her contacts in the local area so please do get in touch if you would like to know more about home care or to explore opportunities for partnering with Right at Home on a community project.
