February session Alzheimer Café Camberley

The Alzheimer Café Camberley was delighted to receive a generous donation from Pennyhill Park from their Christmas Social at its latest session in Camberley on Monday February 15th. Pictured are members of Pennyhill park presenting the cheque for £1,200 to Maureen Hume from the Alzheimer Café Camberley, along with the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Joanne Potter (who supports the Café as one of her chosen charities).

In this month’s session, the subject on the evening was ‘Understanding Fear and Anger’.  Nikki Devonshire, RN from the Memory Clinic, Fleet Hospital gave a highly informative talk on this subject enlightened by her experiences. Music was provided by Lazy Sundays’ (Fay Freemantle from the Alzheimer’s Society & Simon Rooke), who provided a lovely musical concert during the interlude.

The Alzheimer Café provides a space in which the issues surrounding dementia can be aired and problems voiced. It has a very friendly and relaxed feel and provides families and professionals with the opportunity to share their feelings, discuss problems, give and receive guidance and education, and make friends.

Bob Thornton, owner of Right at Home Camberley and Alzheimer’s Café volunteer, said: “We will be delighted to welcome any new attendees to the Camberley Alzheimer Café -please come and join us. It is held every third Monday of the month at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Park Rd, Camberley Surrey GU15 2SR and there is a very welcoming atmosphere – we hope anyone affected by Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia will be encouraged to call in.”
