For the past year Community Chef Robin Van Creveld has been running Man with a Pan cookery courses for older men, in partnership with Camberley Alzheimer Café. It is one of five projects in the London Region selected to take part in the People’s Projects where the public votes to decide which projects will receive National Lottery funding.

If successful, the grant will be used to enable even more men who are vunerable, carers or living on their own, to attend these cookery courses. The project tackles loneliness and builds community. It helps the men to be healthy, feel purposeful and be active. Man with a Pan will further contribute to the welfare of the local community with monthly community catering sessions where the men prepare food for the homeless and clients of the food bank.

You can watch a short film about the project.

Bob Thornton, owner of Right at Home Camberley and Alzheimer’s Café volunteer, said: “We at Right at Home Camberley, Ascot & Woking are proud to be associated with the Camberley Alzheimer Café. It is held every third Monday of the month at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Park Rd, Camberley Surrey GU15 2SR and there is a very welcoming atmosphere – we hope anyone affected by Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia will be encouraged to call in.”
