Award-winning Right at Home GF has expanded the area it serves following its acquisition of Right at Home Camberley and Woking.

Businessman and Managing Director Alastair Shanks first began his career in the home care sector in 2012 when he started the Guildford and Farnham branch of Right at Home. This was soon followed by the opening of an office serving residents in Alton and Bordon and, in 2021, he opened a third office in Twickenham and Richmond.

Since 2012, Alastair Shanks estimates that he and his team have provided around 720,000 hours of care which has helped approximately 1,600 people to continue living in their home.

Bob Thornton, the former Managing Director of Right at Home Camberley and Woking says: “Right at Home has been my second family for nearly ten years. Through the challenges of starting a new business back in 2014, to keeping our clients and carers safe through COVID, and then continuing to grow the business and support our team to grow – every day to me has been focussed on making a difference in our clients’ lives. I will miss our clients and our incredible carers – some of them have been with me on this journey for a long time. I know that I am leaving this very special company in the very safe hands of Alastair, who will continue with the same work and moral values as me. Both my wife Debs and I are now looking forward to the future and to spending lots of time with our growing families.”

Speaking in response, Alastair Shanks says: “I am absolutely delighted to be taking responsibility for Right at Home Camberley and Woking. I have known Bob since he started his business and have seen him grow it into the success it is now.

“All of the team members I have met are lovely and fit in fantastically to our existing values and ethos of quality care. My senior team is very much looking forward to supporting the Camberley team to expand further and to offer some of the community events we run in other parts of our territory like Singing for the Mind.”

Right at Home GF is a significant local employer with over 100 people helping to deliver a range of quality home care services such as help with everyday tasks, companionship, dementia care, live-in and overnight care.

It also provides and runs community events for all such as Inclusive Cricket, Love to Move and the Sunflower Cafes for people with dementia and their carers.
