Home care provider, Right at Home GF is offering people the opportunity to experience what it is like to walk in the shoes of those affected by dementia with a unique and immersive dementia experience.
The experience has been organised as part of a series of activities happening during Dementia Action Week (13-19 May). The aim is for participants to gain a greater understanding and empathy for those living with the diagnosis.
Explaining more about what the experience entails, Right at Home’s Dementia Lead, Adriana Mendonca says: “During the Dementia Experience, participants will be equipped with challenging clothing and accessories designed to simulate the physical and sensory impairments commonly associated with dementia.
“They will be invited to complete a series of everyday tasks so they can get a glimpse into what it is like to live with restricted mobility, impaired vision and diminished fine motor skills. By fostering empathy and awareness, I hope we can create a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals living with dementia.”
Right at Home has organised two Dementia Experiences. The first takes place on Friday 17 May from 12-4pm at Right at Home GF near Farnham and the second is on Monday 20 May from 11-1pm at the Right at Home Camberley and Woking office in Camberley.
Participants of all ages are welcome to attend, and no prior experience or knowledge of dementia is required.
