The Most Amazing Team

Right at Home Cardiff and Newport
2018 was an invaluable learning curve for us here at Right at Home Cardiff and Newport. From the start of the year with the Beast from the East bringing with it freezing cold temperatures, snow and ice to the blisteringly hot summer heatwave bringing with it sunburn, sun stroke and not the nicest of sickness bugs doing the rounds. Then to a time when we suffered some setbacks in our office support system with some staff members leaving us to move onto other things and some simply not suited to their role!
All in all it was a challenging twelve months, but with challenges come huge rewards, opportunities for improvements and also finding the exact match for the roles that then support our clients. Here at Right at Home Cardiff and Newport we want to turn those negatives into positives and there is no better way to do this but by recognising those individuals who have gone not only above and beyond but – in the words of a certain Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story – ‘to infinity and beyond’.
Please read our recognition’s for 2018 and into the first part of 2019 and why these people made important personal developments in their areas of work and really went that extra mile to provide outstanding service to our clients, colleagues and business as a whole.
Carer of the Year – Annie Essiben-Kelleher
Annie has become part of the fabric of our business. She is experienced, knowledgeable, flexible and tireless in her efforts to make a difference to someone’s day. She always has a smile and a spring in her step and is a constant within our care team. She is greatly valued by all and is very much loved by her clients. Annie has achieved so much and has also found time to raise money for her favourite charities by running marathons in her spare time. Annie is a true inspiration and someone who knows what it is to be a great carer.
A few words from Annie – ‘I went into care as I was looking for a job that would fit around my various responsibilities as a mother. I can honestly say I haven’t looked back and have enjoyed every single day, the service users are lovely and the support I get from the office when I encounter problems is fantastic. I have always worked hard but I was really over the moon when I was told that I got the award. It is nice to be recognised, thank you Right at Home. What a marvellous team!’
New Carer of the Year – Victor Moyo
Victor is one of those people who make a very positive impact as soon as you meet him. He is a great carer and colleague and his clients LOVE him. Victor is flexible and hugely helpful and he just has something in his smile that makes people feel cared for and looked after. You know you are in safe hands with Victor and he is a great mentor to new members of the team.
A few words from Victor – ‘Wow, wow, wow! I have no words, I would like to say a big thank you to management and the amazing team for the support. I feel so grateful and honoured to be nominated as a hardworking new comer of 2018. It is really encouraging to know that I make a positive difference to the company. My gratitude to everyone! We are a team, we all work hard. I belong at Right at Home and I feel right at home’.
Young Carer of the Year – Alanah Harvey
Alanah has wowed us many times with the care she has delivered to her clients. For someone who is new to care and who has faced her own challenged, Alanah has really shone and will continue to do so in her chosen career pathway.
A few words from Alanah – ‘When I received the award for ‘Carer of the year’ I was surprised as I haven’t been with Right At Home for a year, yet I received the award! It made me feel very relieved that all my hard work had been noticed and knowing that the clients gave positive feedback about me, let’s me know that this is the right job for me. Yes it is challenging at times; maintaining a professional bond with your clients, having all the patience in the world and always remaining positive, but on the other hand it’s very rewarding. Right At Home are a great company to work for’.
Business Support of the Year – Charlotte O’Donoghue
Charlotte has been with us at Right at Home Cardiff and Newport since almost the very start. She has been a carer in the community and then moved to administration within the office. She is now the Finance Manager and has seen a turn in her career that maybe she didn’t see coming. Charlotte is the ‘go to’ person in terms of finance and is the key member of staff who ensures our wages are paid so she really is a VERY important person within the team and without her at the helm we would not be such a smoothly run operation.
A few words from Charlotte – ‘It was a lovely surprise to have been awarded the ‘Business Support of the Year’ award. It is hugely rewarding working for Right at Home, and it brings great happiness that I have been recognised for my hard work and support whilst working for the company. It is a privilege to work for a great company, and I am glad to see that I can contribute towards the running of the business. Thank you to Joe, Viv and Holly for their continued support’.
Business Administration Support of the Year – Elena Deane
Elena started with us at Right at Home Cardiff and Newport as a carer in the community and then came to assist us in the office with Administration support. Since then Elena’s role has developed and evolved and now she holds the position of Office and Marketing Manager. Elena is exceptionally organised and this is a critical attribute to have when in charge of a fairly large and very busy office environment. Hats off to Elena and all she does for us, our carers and our clients.
A few words from Elena – ‘I feel really overwhelmed with receiving this award, I came to Right at Home as a carer doubting that I could fulfil the job role and now becoming Office and Marketing Manager, I am truly proud of how far I have come. But I would not have been able to do it without the support from my colleagues and especially Joe. Thank you so much for the continued support and dedication to my career and pushing me to achieve more!’
Care Ambassador of the Year – Tatiana Kucerova
Tatiana has been an inspiration to us and continues to shine day in and day out. She has taken on the role of Field Care Supervisor in the Newport area as if she was born into the role and follows through on all tasks she has delegated to her. She has taken on board the Moving and Handling training and we have received some fantastic feedback. Tatiana is well respected for her care and her knowledge in the community and has a genuine passion for the care sector.
A few words from Tatiana – ‘Appreciation can change a day and may even change a life . A small act of kindness doesn’t cost anything and I’m proud to be part of an amazing team. The amount of support I receive on a daily basis really means a lot to me. Thank you x’.
Long Service Award – Shukri Jama
Shukri has been with Right at Home since day one. She has worked tirelessly for the company and for her clients. She is loved by all and seamlessly gets on with her role with a happy demeanour and her personality brings sunshine into the day’s of her clients and colleagues.
A few words from Shukri – ‘I feel so appreciated and humble to be part a lovely and growing company. And I also appreciate all the love and support everyone has given me. I am honoured to have received this award and look forward to working for Right at Home for many years to come’.
GEM Going the Extra Mile – Beverley Smith
Bev has been a trooper and has been a wonderfully consistent and reliable member of the team. Bev goes the extra mile for her clients and they know how much she cares for them. Her bond with her clients is second to none and she shows them compassion and value without question. Bev is one in a million.
A few words from Bev – ‘I have recently received an award for going the extra mile. I was not aware I was put forward for this, I was asked to come into the office for training and to my delight and surprise, myself and two carers from Cardiff who also thought they were attending for training were all presented with awards. We were all very surprised. I was very proud to receive it, but I feel I was only doing my job which I enjoy very much. It’s nice to know that I was considered for this award so thank you all’.
Inspiration of the Year – Charlotte Tutton
Charlotte joined us as a young carer and soon made her mark in the community with her clients by just caring about them and looking after them so well. From there Charlotte went on to being a Senior and then Team Leader and then onto being a Care Coordinator. Charlotte has developed herself so much over the last few years and has become such an integral part of our team. A true inspiration for anyone waiting to progress, step out of their comfort zone and really follow their dreams.
A few words from Charlotte – ‘Receiving my award with Right at Home was very overwhelming and it was nice to know that my hard work does not go unnoticed. To receive an Inspiration award made me believe in myself that little bit extra and actually made me realise how inspiring this job can be. I am very appreciative for receiving this award and will be forever grateful that I work within such a close team that feels like family’.
Outstanding Achievement of the Year – Holly Jones
Holly started with us as a carer almost from the very beginning of Right at Home Cardiff and Newport. From there she took up a support role in the office and then became a Coordinator, Assistant Manager and now a Registered Manager. Holly has proven herself time and time again and has achieved great things during her working life in the care sector. Holly has grown and developed herself and has really taken on board advice, guidance and experience from others in order to assist in her own career progression. Holly has many years of great things ahead and we look forward to following her journey.
A few words from Holly – ‘I am really proud to be receiving an award from Right At Home. I love working for such a caring company, especially with my Right At Home Family around me! It’s great to be part of such a supportive and friendly team, and it feels wonderful to be recognised and rewarded for all the work we all put in’.
Well Done Team, you truly are amazing!
All of the above are truly deserving winners of their award recognition and also a fantastic representation of the amazing care you ALL give to your clients along with the support given to those who are more office based.
Things are looking a lot more settled for 2019 and already I can see improvements in our structures and our staffing resources. Onwards and upwards for a successful year and more awards to be announced for 2019.
