When it comes to customer satisfaction, local homecare provider Right at Home Cardiff & Newport takes a unique approach to training to enable health care professionals to be more empathetic and understanding when caring for Clients with dementia.
The Virtual Dementia Tour experience is an effective training programme for anyone who wants to understand more about how it feels to live with dementia. The training is delivered within the mobile dementia simulator (the “bus”) which is based in the office car park of Right at Home, Cardiff.
It is impossible to know exactly what it’s like but the simulation training provides insight. The Tour enables caregivers to experience for themselves the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face, and use the experience to provide better person-centered care. It can also help individuals understand how simple interventions can change the sensory experience of someone living with dementia, i.e. decrease their anxiety and reduce challenging behaviour.
This training method allows people to enter the world of the person they are caring for and understand what simple changes need to be made to their practice and environment to really improve the lives of people living with dementia. The course will be held on January 28th 2020, for up to 12 delegates at a time.
Right at Home provides the highest quality care and support to Clients living in the comfort of their own home. As well as providing specialist dementia care, it also offers a wide range of services from personal care and medication reminders through to full-time live-in care.
Right at Home also offers Dementia Friends information sessions to businesses and the local community. Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative which aims to give people a better understanding of what it is like living with dementia.
