Introducing Our New Clinical Care Services at Right at Home Chippenham
For years, Right at Home Chippenham have been trusted by hundreds of people to provide exceptional home care services to the vulnerable adults in our community. As a CQC regulated home care company, our mission is to offer compassionate, personalised, and professional care that enhances the quality of life for our clients in areas such as Chippenham, Calne, Devizes, Corsham, Trowbridge, and the surrounding villages.
After spending the last few months upskilling our amazing CareGivers, we are excited to announce that we have expanded our service offerings to include specialized clinical care services. This new addition allows us to cater to the increasing needs of our clients and provide a more comprehensive care experience. In this blog, we are going to share more information about this, including any limitations, as it’s so important that people know what we can and cannot help with, as many clinical areas need Registered Nurses & Doctors to support.
Our Journey:
Since our founding in 2019, Right at Home Chippenham has been committed to delivering high-quality care that meets the unique needs of each individual. Our team of dedicated CareGivers & Support Team works tirelessly to ensure that our clients receive the support they need to live comfortably and independently in their own homes. Expanding Our Services: Why Clinical Care?
The decision to expand our services to include clinical care stems from our ongoing commitment to adapt and respond to the evolving needs of our community. We recognize that many of our clients require specialized medical care that goes beyond the more traditional Personal Care, Medication & Incontinence support, which are a vital service that is relied upon by many, but there was and is a demand for people needing the advance clinical care while being able to live in their home safely. By introducing clinical care services, we aim to bridge this gap and provide a holistic care experience that encompasses both Social & Health Care tasks.
Our New Clinical Care Services
Here’s an overview of the clinical care services now available at Right at Home Chippenham, including the areas we can and cannot support with:
PEG Feeding (Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy):
Our trained CareGivers can assist clients with feeding through their ‘PEG’. The implementation of a ‘PEG’ is a medical procedure, and is completed when an individual cannot eat/drink through oral methods. Our CareGivers can support clients to maintain that fluid/food intake through the PEG device, which is a clinically delegated task due to the risks involved, so it is essential that this is not delegated to someone who has not been trained by a Registered Nurse.
As part of our training, our CareGivers know what risks or complications to look out for, as well as what should be reported and how to report these.
Catheter Care Management
Our CareGivers can assist clients to empty and even change their catheter bag, spot signs of infection or complication, and understand what needs reporting to our office, or if more serious, then the emergency services.
Catheters are something we commonly encounter in social care, but it is so important that they are given the respect they require, as they are a clinical healthcare task and do carry risks.
Our CareGivers complete the safe emptying of these, following strict Infection Prevention & Control training, as well as changing the bags daily/weekly.
Our CareGivers are not clinically trained to insert a catheter into clients, or check if it is correctly in place, but do have the knowledge to know when something is not right and how to report this.
Stoma Care
Transitioning and adjusting to living with a Stoma Bag can be challenging for some people, and for clients who become less abled or begin living with conditions such as Arthritis or Dementia, it can be challenging to safely manage Stoma Bags. This is why we felt it was our duty to include Stoma Care in our clinical care offering, so that we can help people as much or as little when it came to their Stoma Care routine.
We are able to complete, or help clients to complete the cleaning of their skin around the opening, the changing of the stoma bag and also help with managing the stock levels of stoma bags, as well as the ordering or new bags/supplies.
Our Clinically trained CareGivers will help as little, or as much, as you need to ensure you have choice, independence & control when it comes to your Stoma Care.
Diabetes Monitoring
We appreciate & understand the difficulty of daily/regular blood sugar monitoring, it is something that gets forgotten or overlooked, but is at times something that is difficult or fiddly to complete. Nevertheless, it is incredibly important to keep people safe & well, so we felt it was our duty to ensure our people are clinically trained to support with diabetes monitoring.
Our CareGivers are trained to support clients to complete their blood sugar level checks, and are trained in identifying and acting on low / high readings from this test.
Our team cannot give clinical advice, but they know the correct actions to take, and have the experience of the office, 111 & 999 should it be needed.
Insulin Management
Our most recent addition to our Clinical Care Offering is the supporting of Insulin Injections. This is something that many clients can manage themselves, or have loved ones support with, however we have found that in the past when clients or their loved ones are not able to help, their only option is to go into a Nursing home for the short or long term.
For this reason, we felt the need to invest in our team and step up with our Clinical Offering.
Our CareGivers can only follow set directions from a GP/Prescribing Nurse, and can’t fill syringes, they must be pre filled, disposable syringes.
We are in the process of rolling out our Lower Limb & Wound Management Clinical Care training, so can soon support with this.
