Right at Home Chippenham helping clients to enjoy a better quality of life.
Mr W is a 58 year old Male with a history of epilepsy, Type 2 Diabetes and amputated toes on his foot. These combined made it difficult for him to enjoy the quality of life that he desired. Before he started with Right at Home, Mr W experienced very depressive moods and a low self-esteem which made it very hard for him to leave the house or attend any community appointments due to this.
During the first meeting with Mr W it was clear that he would self-neglect and have a negative attitude towards day to day living. This was also reflected on his living situations – He felt there was no need to tidy up as he didn’t like his property, had no wishes to maintain this & in his words, he had nothing to work towards each day.
Mr W and one of our Client Care Managers at Right At Home sat down together to come up with a plan to see how we could best support him, ensuring he was in the driving seat & was able to decide what his goals . DW has now been with us for 6 months and the transformation is incredible!
With support from our CareGivers Mr W is now able to leave the house with support in his wheelchair and attend any community appointment’s he wishes. A big step was when he attended a Christmas day meal at the local church which would have never happened 6 months ago. He is often seen around the local shops as well as purchasing his own shopping on a day to day basis which is incredible to see.
Another big concern Mr W raised regarding his health and wellbeing was his food and nutrition intake. Before starting with Right at Home, Mr W wasn’t making the best or healthiest food choices and would often eat “snacky” food as he had no support with meal preparation. Mr W can now stand with CareGivers and support them with meal preparation. He now has two cooked meals in a day and says he has so much more energy. This meant he was able to stand up and help sweep his kitchen floor when needed or complete any other household tasks to help him feel involved with his care plan.
Right at Home also work very closely with social workers. After Mr W expressed concern about his living conditions we made an urgent phone call to his Social worker and a review was set up within days. Following on from the meeting, MR W is now in the process of leaving his very small bedsit for a one-bedroom flat. This filled him with joy!
