Raydon is recorded in the Doomsday Book as “a village of little consequence” and indeed for many centuries that was precisely what it was. On old maps it is recorded as Reydon St Mary.

The village nowadays is a vibrant community where there’s always something going on to cater for everyone’s tastes. The local gardening club has a busy schedule throughout the year, the Church holds fortnightly services as well as hosting other annual events. The Women’s Fellowship Group meet fortnightly throughout the spring and autumn months where they host many fascinating guest speakers on wide ranging subjects, and there are monthly coffee mornings held in the village hall. Raydon has many public footpaths where you can enjoy walking in the beautiful Brett Vale, local woodland and surrounding area.  Many of our connecting footpaths are located in the designated Stour Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty)

Alton water is a stunning reservoir and a wonderful resource for the public, offering people of all ages and abilities the chance to spend time outdoors, enjoying a variety of pursuits – from fishing and sailing to walking, wildlife watching and more. Flatford Mill, Dedham Vale

Flatford Mill offers attractive walks along the river and hot and cold drinks in the tearoom in the nearby granary (plus a well-stocked gift shop!). This is a National Trust property has a wonderful nature reserve with a beautiful wildlife garden. Colchester Zoo, Colchester

Colchester Zoo is constantly developing and has won many awards for its work. With over 270 species to see, set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo is well worth a visit. As you walk around the zoo there’s plenty of play areas to try out including the indoor soft play area Jungle Tumble with a section for under 3s and all new play equipment where the kids can release their wild side! To find out more click here
