Making Wishes Come True: Celebrating Self-Care with Our Wonderful Client, Sally

At Right at Home Derby & East Staffs, we believe that self-care and dignity should always remain a priority, no matter the circumstances. Our Making Wishes Come True initiative is all about ensuring our clients continue to enjoy the things that bring them joy and comfort. Recently, we had the privilege of making a very special wish come true for our wonderful East Staffs client, Sally.

For Sally, self-care has always been a fundamental part of her life. She has always taken great pride in her appearance, whether it was dressing in her Sunday best or keeping up with her regular hair appointments. Looking after herself was never just a routine – it was a way of life. Unfortunately, as time has passed, Sally’s health has declined, and she is now bed-bound. However, one thing remains unchanged – her unwavering commitment to maintaining her standards and feeling her best.

When we learned that Sally’s wish was to have her nails done, just as she had regularly done in the past, we knew we had to make it happen. With the help of Becs from BLouNails, we arranged a special pampering session where Sally could relax, chat, and pick out her favourite colours. For a couple of hours, she was transported back to the days when a nail appointment was a cherished ritual, reminding her that self-care is still very much within reach.

While the afternoon was filled with laughter and light-hearted conversations, it was also a time for some important and sensitive discussions. Conversations around end-of-life care can be incredibly difficult, yet they are essential. With Deputy Manager Karen and Becs by her side, Sally was surrounded by warmth, understanding, and support. These moments, although delicate, were handled with compassion and empathy, ensuring that Sally felt heard, respected, and cared for.

This experience was a powerful reminder that dignity in care goes beyond physical assistance – it’s about emotional support, respect, and maintaining the little things that bring happiness. For Sally, having her nails done wasn’t just about beauty; it was about preserving a sense of normality, confidence, and identity.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Sally for allowing us to be part of her journey and for reminding us all of the importance of self-care, no matter what stage of life we are in.
