- Health Awareness
Your health is affected by a number of different factors such as your family’s medical history and the environment and climate you live in. There are factors that we can control or take preventative measures to support us in keeping healthy. As well as regular exercise and eating a well-balanced diet, you can book appointments for a check up:
Blood pressure checks
Blood pressure checks are used to check the pressure of blood in your arteries, having high blood pressure can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke.
There are a number of places you can have your blood pressure checked as a preventative measure including:
- GP surgeries
- Pharmacies
- Some workplaces
- An NHS health check
Diabetes checks
The two most common types of diabetes are Type 1 and Type 2. Both can be serious conditions and if left over a long period can cause serious damage, however with the right treatment can be easily managed. Eating healthily and doing regular exercise play a large part in living with diabetes.
Being aware of your health and booking in for regular check ups can help you stay on top of and manage any potential or existing condition.
Eye tests
Regular eye tests are important to maintaining good vision. Eye tests can not only check whether you need glasses, it can also make you aware of any health problems or early signs of eye conditions. There are a number of places that offer free eye tests, if you are 60 and above you can get free eye tests on the NHS.
Hearing checks
Hearing loss is something that often develops with age. There are ways to prevent hearing loss such as using ear protection or headphones that block out loud noise. To have your hearing checked you can visit your GP or book a free hearing test at Boots.
