West Midlands expansion news

Three experienced operators bring Right at Home to the heart of England

Published: 11/05/2023

We are excited to report big Right at Home news for the West Midlands, with our first office in the region now CQC registered, and two more territories opening this summer.

With combined territories supporting well over 100,000 over 65s, we're looking forward to bringing bringing our premium quality care and companionship services to many new local communities.

And that work is already well underway in Bromsgrove and Redditch, where franchise owner Mark Appleton has been getting to understand local care needs while preparing his business for launch.

The former owner of a frozen meal delivery business, Mark was already working to support people's independence, and well aware of the need for high quality care services.

He and his Registered Manager, Wendy Chambers, have already signed up their first Clients and are starting to build a team of caring and fun-loving people and train them in the Right at Home care model.

Mark and Wendy will be using our systems to build their own local culture where effort is celebrated and Client outcomes are the first priority.

Their standards will be high, and we're sure RaH Bromsgrove will soon be contributing to and driving the network's impressive performance indicators, with collective client recommendation score of 9.8/10*, and 34% of CQC inspected locations rated Outstanding.

Mark said: "I am incredibly excited to have reached the stage in our start-up journey where Wendy and I are building our fledgling team and able to start delivering care to our first Clients. A lot of careful preparation has gone into getting us to this stage, and it's been a real team effort between Wendy and me and the team at Right at Home National Office - the role played by our Business Support Manager and Quality and Compliance Manager, in particular, has been instrumental. We're collectively excited to now start focusing on our next set of goals – reaching breakeven point within my target timeframe, and gathering evidence of Outstanding care ahead of our first CQC inspection.

"As an experienced franchisee looking to stay in franchising, I decided that care was the right direction as it is really closely aligned with Wiltshire Farm Foods in the sense of a common customer base, objectives of the service, financial returns and size of territory etc.

"But I also wanted to stick with a very high quality service, with a great brand and reputation and who employed great staff. This was based on my Dad’s dementia journey and the care we had organised for him. Wiltshire also is a premium food provider in its sector and I recognise the pride of delivering a premium service. This is something I want to continue.

"I undertook research on all the care franchises and very quickly identified Right at Home as being at the top of the list. When I understood that there were available territories in my target area I approached Kate at National Office for exploratory talks.

"After meeting Kate and Ken and all my dealings during mobilisation it has continued to enforce my confidence that Right at Home really cares about the franchisees, customers and staff."

And Mark will soon have Franchise Owner neighbours in the West Midlands, as two couples are launching into business with Right at Home.

Opening the Telford territory later this year, Bright Gurupira is taking his professional career in care to the next step, by building his own business, with the support of his HR professional wife Grace.

The couple are excited to be setting up their office in their home town, and working with us to find the right care manager to help build their business on strong foundations.

Bright said: "Grace and I made the decision to move out of employment and into business ownership because we knew we could achieve more, with control over our own venture. We do recognise this means moving away from the security and guaranteed pay cheques that come with a job, but we're hard workers and feel confident that in partnership with Right at Home, we can make our business a success. Also, as parents, we love the prospect of building a legacy that could perhaps be passed on to the next generation.

"We did a lot of research into care franchises before signing, and what stood out most about Right at Home is the absolute focus on quality, which was clear from the regulatory results and, as we've completed training and got to know the wider team, is evident in every aspect of their highly supportive business model.

"We are excited to have this opportunity to champion the cause of good quality care and looking forward to getting our new office in Telford up and running."

Bright and Grace are joined on the start-up journey with another couple who are taking a territory just a few miles away, in Solihull.

Anish Panchmatia and his wife Payaal completed Right at Home's 10-day initial induction in Liverpool with Bright and Grace and the couples will now head into their businesses with the benefit of strong peer support.

Like Mark in Bromsgrove, Anish also has an established track record in franchising. He inherited his family's convenience store business, adapting it's wholesale discount model with a consumer-experience model that saw him compete successfully against supermarket brands, before joining a retail franchise and achieving further growth.

Anish is, in fact, holder of the Franchise's Top 30 Under 30 franchise owners award - so we're looking forward to helping him become an expert in his new field, and seeing his passion for stand-out customer service driving his new homecare business towards sustainable growth.

He and Payaal, an optometrist who will be supporting Anish around her career, are looking forward to recruiting their new team and setting up the new office.
