The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight has praised his local Right at Home office for organising a “brilliant” event aimed at assisting older people on the Island to live well at home for longer.

Graham Bliss showed his support for RaH Isle of Wight Franchise Owners, Vicky and Paul Butler, as they opened the Older Person’s Good Living Show at Sandown Airport on August 17.

The event saw over 40 services share their advice, information and expertise on how older people can live happily, independently and safely in their own homes.

Attendees also enjoyed hourly workshops, live music, a Pilates session, a selection of delicious food and a raffle.

The High Sheriff, Graham Bliss, attended the show and spent time meeting all exhibitors.

Appointed by the Crown, Graham’s role involves highlighting the work of people and organisations who dedicate their time to supporting young people and the elderly, particularly those that reduce demand for blue light services.

Praising Right at Home for a successful show, he said: “What a brilliant event. It’s amazing to have so many businesses come together and give older adults and their families a chance to meet them all in one place.”

Vicky and Paul opened the first Older Persons Good Living Show at Ventnor Botanical Gardens last year, with 300 people in attendance.

After a successful launch, the pair promised a bigger and better event for 2024, and they certainly delivered.

“We were so proud to welcome over 500 attendees this year,” Vicky said. “None of this could have been achieved without the support of Sandown Airport for allowing us to hold our event there free of charge, the local businesses and community groups who attended the event and our extremely hardworking volunteers who supported in ensuring the day was well organised.”

Vicky continued: “The number of hours and hard work from the whole team has been more than rewarded by the amazing feedback we have received and the attendance from the public. Thank you to everyone involved.”

Vicky and Paul opened their RaH franchise in 2021 and have since gone onto receive multiple awards and an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission.
