Right at Home grows, as we introduce our newest business owners

Right at Home are currently supporting a number of new Right at Home offices to launch. Here, we introduce our newest business owners, as they discuss what led them to join Right at Home.

Over the summer, Right at Home have experienced a growth in the network. The five new business owners started their training in July, and are in the process of recruiting the right support staff, so they can provide outstanding homecare to their local communities.

Here, we introduce four of them to you Grant Attwood, Paresh Mistry, Lenny Balendra and Kurt Gunthardt, who share their reasons for investing in their own Right at Home franchise.

Grant Attwood
Right at Home North Somerset

Originally from South Africa, Grant has a background in Manufacturing. He developed a love and a passion for his local community, having moved to the UK about 12 years ago, so wanted to find a way to give back to it. “Throughout my career I’ve been involved in developing and manufacturing throw away products,” Grant explains, “but having been involved in my family’s business, I really wanted to do something for myself, which would be more substantial to people locally.

“Franchising offers a proven business model which is lower risk than starting something alone. When I came across Right at Home, I was looking for a business which would specifically allow me to give back. Right at Home don’t just offer lip service about quality care, they are passionate about delivering outstanding quality care. The values they have aligned with my personal values, and I knew I could offer a beneficial service in my local community.”

Paresh Mistry
Right at Home, Ilkley, Keighley & Skipton

A chartered accountant by profession, Paresh reached a point where he no longer felt passionate about spreadsheets. “I do a lot of community work with the youth, so was keen to develop my passion of working in the community. The idea of helping local people deal with social issues like loneliness and isolation, especially the elderly, particularly appealed to me,” Paresh explains.

“I connected with Right at Home’s down-to-earth approach about offering quality homecare. As I looked into the opportunity Right at Home offer, I’ve greatly appreciated the openness and honesty I’ve received from both the National Office, and franchisees. It’s given me a trust in the brand, which is why I decided to align my future business with them.”

Kurt Gunthardt
Right at Home, Stevenage, Letchworth and Hitchin

Kurt worked for Mercedes Benz, working his way up to Regional Head of Business for the London area, before he took voluntary redundancy. “I had the ambition to run my own business. I looked at franchising because I wanted to maximise my success rate whilst minimising the risk. Right at Home offers both training and support, both from the outset, and throughout the journey. With moving into an industry I didn’t know, Right at Home have provided me with exactly what I needed. I have also spoken with a number of franchisees who were very open about their experiences, which has been hugely beneficial.

“My mother-in-law is in her 80s, and living alone. My wife and I noticed she became more introverted and quite frail, suffering some minor falls, so we found a local homecare provider to support her – the impact of which has given her a new lease of life. My wife joined me at the Discovery Day, as I wanted to involve my family from the outset, and we have both seen first-hand the benefit of good homecare.”

Lenny Balendra
Right at Home, Oxford

Before he invested in his Right at Home business, Lenny was a freelance contractor, with a background in IT and finance. “I especially wanted to start a business in care, so my wife and I looked at the available care franchises, as we knew we would need the support franchising offers. There are a lot of regulations within the care industry. Right at Home are extremely professional, and the support we’ve received has been exceptional – any doubts we had were answered quickly by the National Office.

“Our main driver for opening a care business, was our parents: My mother, in her 90s, and my mother-in-law, in her 70s, both want to stay at home where they are surrounded by family. We believe in the concept of providing care at home, and want to be able to offer this to people in our community. Right at Home allows us the best possible start to achieve this.”

Right at Home’s franchise recruitment manager Kate Dilworth said: “We had a fantastic RightStart training session in July, and we’re really looking forward to supporting our new franchisees to establish their businesses. After their detailed evaluation process, they all have clear expectations of both the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead of them, and in training it was clear they will be very proactive in using our proven systems within their own businesses.”

Right at Home have a number of Discovery Days scheduled for the remainder of the year.
