Alastair Shanks

Owner and Managing Director

Alastair Shanks lives in Farnham and is passionate about making a difference in his local community. He opened the doors of this, his first Right at Home office in 2012, having decided that the care sector was an area he was keen to work in.

Alastair started his career with Unilever, where he spent some time working in Italy, after which he returned to the UK to run a family business. After selling up in 2010, he decided he wanted to start his own business in the local community and was successful in joining the growing team of Right at Home local owner/operators.

“Quality of service has always been important to me,” Alastair explains, “but with home care it really means more than ever. I am determined that our team should give the best care in the Guildford and Farnham area and in order to do that we need the best Care Assistants. We put a lot of effort into recruiting the best people and in making Right at Home a great place to work so that we hang on to them! I am so proud of my team, they are all fantastic from the office staff to the CareGivers."

Alastair has since grown this office to be the most successful in the Right at Home network. With an Outstanding rating from CQC and a huge range of initiatives to support the local community it is all he imagined creating.

Alastair has become known locally as a dementia specialist, with a real interest in supporting people living with dementia to make the most of life. He has set up various community groups like Singing for the Mind, runs regular dementia awareness sessions and is now a trustee of a wonderful charity, Dementia Adventure.

Alastair is also a keen adventurer and can often be seen running or cycling around the local woodlands or travelling on some adventure or another. One of his life ambitions is to sail around the world with his wife and daughters.
