Role at Right at Home GF – Care Manager for Farnham, Fleet and Aldershot

When did you join? – 2017

How would you describe your role? – I manage a team of caregivers and clients. This involves overseeing the smooth running of clients’ care packages and making sure we are compliant.

Are you full time or part time? – I work full time, but my hours are flexible.

What did you do before joining Right at Home? Growing up, my Mum was a nurse and ran a care home where we lived in so it is probably not surprising that I also ended up working in care! Having seen all aspects of the care sector, I chose to go down the care management route.

Prior to joining Right at Home, I was a care coordinator. Becoming a Care Manager provided a new challenge which I enjoy.

What do you enjoy most about your job? It’s about being able to make a positive impact on somebody’s life and helping them be able to stay at home.

What has been your proudest moment at Right at Home GF? There is one case that particularly sticks in my mind. We were approached by a lady who wanted us to provide home care for her mother who had advanced dementia.

When I heard the client’s name, I realised that it was a former colleague. I carried out the initial care assessment and found it quite difficult to see how she had changed.

I worked hard with the team to put the right carers and care package in place and to build a trusting relationship with the client’s daughter. I feel proud of what we achieved and that we were able to support my former colleague’s wish to be able to pass away peacefully at home.

What do you want to achieve at Right at Home GF? I want to continue to grow the area and the team. I’m content to remain as a Care Manager as it is in this role that I can help people achieve happiness at work.

What are the qualities you look for in a caregiver? Without a doubt, they need to have compassion, to be respectful, trustworthy and honest.

They don’t need home care experience, but they do need an open mind, to give the job time and a desire to make a difference to people’s lives.
