Stacy

CareGiver for Team Guildford

A little bit about Stacy:

Stacy joined team Guildford as one of our amazing CareGivers, amongst the big team we have, at the start of 2021, and has flourished ever since! She has become a valued CareGiver, as she is committed to making a difference everyday! Stacy is currently in the process of getting her Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care to enhance her career... exciting times!

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did prior to joining Right at Home?

Before joining Right at Home, I was a stay at home mum/carer of 2, one of which is on the autism spectrum and has epilepsy. I’ve done lots of bar work and retail work prior to starting my journey with right at home.

What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?

I needed to find something that would be rewarding, push me out of my comfort zone and just be a complete change to anything I’ve ever done before. I’m very caring by nature so it seemed a good move.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

I looked at the reviews of the company online when I applied and it seemed like a good fit for me.

What does a typical day look like for you?

There’s no such thing as a typical day in this job! All the clients are different, they all require different help and even when I visit the same client multiple times a week I never know what to expect. It’s brilliant.

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

I love that I never know what to expect, I love listening to the stories and experiences my clients share with me, I love having a brilliant team supporting me and most of all I love going home knowing I’ve made even the smallest difference to somebody’s day.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?

My favourite achievement so far has to be hearing from a client how much she appreciates that I understand her needs. She’s always been a very independent lady and doesn’t really like that she needs help and can’t drive herself places anymore. She likes that I’m not taking over and that we go out places as often as time allows.

Do you have any pets? If so, what?

I have a fluffy black cat called Hela, she’s 4 and an absolute menace but I love her!

What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?

I’m pretty good a pub quizzes, I know a little bit about a lot of things.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Trust you instincts and if in doubt, ask somebody.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learnt in the past month?

I have just learnt that Surrey fire and rescue offer free fire safety checks in peoples homes. Unrelated to work but I also learnt what my husbands mum looked like.
