A boost to Farnham’s Singing for the Mind

A fantastic £500 was raised at Right at Home GF’s Musical Memories event recently which welcomed over 40 people, some living with dementia, to a relaxed, sociable afternoon concert.
The money raised will help fund the regular Singing for the Mind sessions at Farnham Maltings.
“We support around 100 older people in the Farnham area to stay living in their own homes,” explains Alastair Shanks, MD at Right at Home GF, “and we’re delighted to be able to put on events that allow those living in isolation at home to get involved in the community.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Farnham Maltings, Baker Law and Hexagon Healthcare because we couldn’t have raised this money without their help.”
Singing for the Mind is a very popular group which takes place at 2pm every Monday afternoon at Farnham Maltings. Led by professional singer Barbara Rayner, it’s a great chance for those living with dementia and their carers to meet up for a cup of tea and exercise their vocal chords.
Christine Lee, Arts & Health Project Manager at Farnham Maltings, says that the atmosphere at these regular sessions is always very relaxed.
“Barbara is great at getting people involved and even those who choose not to join in the singing have a smile on their face – there’s a real feel-good factor about it.”
Both Farnham Maltings and Right at Home GF support a number of activities in Farnham for those living with dementia and are both founding members of the Farnham Dementia Action Alliance.
