Alastair Takes the Helm in Atlantic Crossing

The Managing Director of local home care providers Right at Home GF is embarking on a daring mission to sail across the Atlantic in a bid to raise money for the National Alzheimer’s Society.
Alastair Shanks is taking part in the Atlantic Race for Cruisers which is the largest trans-ocean sailing event in the world. It is anticipated that around 200 boats will enter the race which starts at Las Palmas in Gran Canaria on 24 November and ends in Saint Lucia.
Speaking about his forthcoming Atlantic voyage, Alastair says: “I love sailing so I am really excited to have this opportunity. I am equally pleased to be able to raise money for a very worthwhile charity which more and more of our clients and their families are turning to for
additional support and advice.
“During this adventure, I’ll be part of an eight-person crew on a 63-foot boat called Fatjax.
Between us we’ll split into two teams to cover three four-hour shifts during the day and two six-hour shifts at night. I’m told the crossing will take between eight and 31 days. Personally, I’m hoping we will be able to complete our journey in about three weeks as I need to be back in time for the Right at Home Christmas party!”
So far, Alastair has raised over £550 from people who have taken part in a competition to guess how long it will take him to cross the Atlantic.
