Bright career prospects in the care sector
Published: 01/03/2021
Career opportunities in the care sector are being highlighted by Outstanding-rated home care company, Right at Home GF, during National Careers Week (1 – 6 March).
“At Right at Home GF, we have a range of roles for applicants, and support our staff through professional qualifications, including apprenticeships. We currently have a number of people working through different levels of apprenticeships and are always on the lookout for more,” says Alastair Shanks, Right at Home GF’s Managing Director. “Caregiving roles suit people with energy, listening skills and who thrive on personal interaction. Caregivers also find the feeling of being valued and knowing they are helping someone enormously rewarding. Few jobs can match that.”
For young people thinking ahead to what they want to do after school or college and for people of all ages thinking about their next move, prospects in the care sector are looking positive. While roles in retail and hospitality can be hard to find or lack security, the care sector – which is similarly people-focused – is in need of enthusiastic, positive, practical people keen to make a difference.
Many of Right at Home’s caregivers have worked in other jobs before coming to the care sector and finding they love it. Caregiving offers a rare combination of important, valuable work with great variety and where individuals can gain recognised qualifications that develop their skills and expertise.
For young people, caregiving can greatly help build confidence and maturity and broaden their horizons. For those later in life, the role is an excellent opportunity to put organisation and people skills developed in other roles or through home life to good use.
National Careers Week takes place each year to empower young people to make positive changes in their lives through careers education. Its website is packed with information and advice for young people and their parents or carers.
