Caregivers Donate an Hour’s Pay for Elf Day

Caregivers from Right at Home GF showed true Christmas spirit by donating an hour’s pay to the company’s fundraising efforts for the Alzheimer’s Society. Around 20 members of staff took part, and their generosity was rewarded by Right at Home GF boss, Alastair Shanks, who matched the overall donation two-fold raising over £700.
The donations were part of a year’s worth of fundraising activities which included staff dressing as elves and collecting donations from shoppers on Alzheimer’s Society Elf Day 6 December.
“Right at Home GF is part of a nationwide family of Right at Home providers. When our head office committed to raising £20,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society this year, we really wanted to play our part,” says Alastair Shanks. “Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease that we see first-hand in many of our clients, so I was not a bit surprised that so many of our team of caregivers generously donated an hour’s wages and got stuck-in raising more money in Farnham. I understand those elf outfits were not all that warm but despite the cold, Farnham shoppers generously donated £233.49 so together with the team’s Elf Tea Party and Raffle, the total raised came to an amazing £1,410 on the day! I’d like to publicly thank my staff for their enthusiasm for this great cause.”
Right at Home GF is collecting donations on the Just Giving website.
The company, which covers Guildford, Farnham, Alton, Fleet and Bordon, has now raised over £4,000 this year through collections, a raffle and Mr Shanks’ fundraising sailing expedition across the Atlantic in which he and his crew came first in their group and tenth overall out of 192 teams.
Right at Home GF provides care to people in their own homes. Support from caregivers ranges from preparing meals and providing companionship through to specialist dementia care and full-time live in care. The company also runs a number of activities and clubs open to all, such as Singing for the Mind and the Sunflower Cafe which offers support to people with dementia and their loved ones.
