Community Health Checks to Support Clients and GP Practices
Published: 21/07/2021
Urinary Tract Infections , or UTI’s, are very common and very uncomfortable. If left untreated they can become serious and even require a stay in hospital. Early intervention is essential to being able to treat a UTI quickly and effectively and ideally at home.
Community Health Check Programme
In June we launched our Community Health Checks programme. Right at Home CareGivers have been trained to recognise early signs of Urinary Tract Infections and how to treat early symptoms with the aim to delay or even stop the need for a GP appointment, antibiotics or a lengthy hospital stay. If caught early enough then treatment can be as simple as drinking more fluids.
Early Intervention
If early intervention does not seem to work and the symptoms continue or worsen then our CareGivers have been trained and empowered to take the clients temperature and a urine dip using kits provided by Right at Home. These results can then be shared with the clients GP and treatments plans can be actioned. Not only does this help our clients but this additional service will also help support GP practices and ease some of their workload during this incredibly busy time.
Our Director of Care Sara Woodley has completed training with Care Managers to cascade down to CareGivers with refresher courses available.
Health Kits
Single client use strip thermometers and dip test kits have been distributed to CareGivers keep inside care kits and we already have had feedback that this scheme has successfully helped treat a number of clients with uncomfortable symptoms.
