Engaging with Ageing advice service helps reduce anxiety
Published: 29/06/2018
Engaging with Ageing is the new local drop-in advice service in Farnham. The service supports local people as they embrace the challenges of ageing and maintain their independence at home and in the local community.
Engaging with Ageing has experts on hand from Hexagon Healthcare, Right at Home GF and Baker Law Solicitors to offer advice on a range of subjects including aids to independence, care and companionship services and power of attorney – both financial and personal welfare. They can also signpost people to local support and social groups such as Right at Home GF’s Sunflower Cafe, Farnham Assist’s Knit ‘n’ Natter, Farnham Maltings’ Meet me at the Maltings and Farnham Leisure Centre’s Inclusive Cricket among others.
“There is a huge amount going on in Farnham,” explains Alastair Shanks, MD at Right at Home GF and Chair of the Farnham Dementia Action Alliance, “but knowing where to find it isn’t always easy.
“Last month a lady brought her friend who had some worries about memory loss to Engaging with Ageing,” he continues. “We were able to advise her about talking to her GP and point her in the direction of some community events. She left feeling more informed and less anxious.”
Engaging with Ageing offers the opportunity to get first hand expert advice in an informal setting and also find out what is going on locally. It takes place every second Wednesday of the month from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Conservative Club in central Farnham, just off Downing Street.
