Going the Extra Mile
Published: 07/05/2020
Right at Home GF’s caregivers are well known for going the extra mile for their clients but since the government introduced restrictions to help reduce the spread of coronavirus, they really have shown they are worth their weight in gold.
From helping clients learn how to FaceTime so they can connect with friends, to going out of their way to get shopping or prescriptions, the reports of how Right at Home caregivers have gone beyond what is expected of them highlights how they frequently make a difference in their every day role.
Right at Home GF’s Managing Director Alastair Shanks had the difficult task of reviewing April’s GEM award nominations. After some deliberation, he chose four winners and ‘virtually’ presented the caregivers with their awards.
The first GEM award went to Lauren who discovered her client’s kitchen tap had sprung a leak. Not only did Lauren turn off the water supply and mop up the water, but she also went back after her care visit with some bottled water so her client could still have a cup of tea while waiting for the tap to be repaired.
Kate Shanks, who is Alastair’s wife was nominated by Claire Skilton, Care Manager at our Bordon office for the amazing way in which she was quick to identify a need for a shopping service for those forced to stay at home during the coronavirus lockdown. In no time at all, Kate launched Friends Shop and recruited over 100 volunteers who were soon shopping once a week for over 50 people. This number has since increased.
Caregiver Alison M was nominated by Kelly who is one of our live-in caregivers. In Kelly’s words, Alison went out of her way to collect an urgent prescription and to get it back to Kelly in time.
Finally, Alastair nominated Stacey C. Stacey has a client living with dementia who tends to get fidgety and uncomfortable. Stacey was quick to commission her mother-in-law to make a fiddle muff and our client is now a lot more content.
Speaking about the nominations, Alastair says: “I’ve always known what an amazing team we have and have never been more proud than I am now. I feel so honoured to be part of Right at Home and wish to say a huge thank you and well done to every single member of the team.
The GEM award winners will receive a certificate and pin badge.
If you know somebody who has Gone the Extra Mile, please nominate them for a GEM award.
