Home cooked Christmas meals available for older people on their own this Christmas

Local home care company, Right at Home GF has been stunned by the generosity of local cooks who have responded to its call to dish up an extra meal or two this Christmas Day for an older person or couple in need. Now, it is asking people to get in touch if they could benefit from one of the meals or know someone who could.

Alastair Shanks, Managing Director of Right at Home GF says: “If you are an older person who will struggle to cook for yourself on Christmas Day or you know someone who is, please get in touch. We have offers of lots of home cooked Christmas meals and desserts which we would like to match up with recipients. There is absolutely no reason why anyone in need in the Guildford and Farnham area should not enjoy a hot, wholesome meal delivered direct to their home on Christmas Day this year.”

Mr Shanks continues: “Our Christmas meals project is really simple. We asked people to get in touch with us if they could commit to serving up an extra portion of their Christmas lunch and be prepared to deliver it to a local elderly person on Christmas Day. Instructions on how to reheat the meal will be included for anyone who prefers an evening meal. We had a fantastic response and so are now ready to match up those offers with recipients.” 

Anybody who would like to request a meal should sign up online. 

Right at Home GF organised a similar Christmas meal project last year when the government announced the national lockdown over the festive period. Although it is hoped this Christmas will be different, many day centres and community groups that traditionally provide a Christmas lunch for people, have taken the decision not to risk getting people to together in large groups. Instead, local businesses and organisations such as Farnham Assist, Farnham Maltings, Brightwells Gostrey and Waitrose have lent their support to feeding older people on Christmas Day by getting involved in the Christmas meals project.

Right at Home GF is a home care company that provides a range of support such as companionship, practical help and specialist care to help people live comfortably in their own homes for as long as they wish. Many Right at Home clients are elderly but they also include those with disabilities, long term health problems or people recovering from serious illness.
