More than the Basic Care Services
Published: 26/06/2018
When people think about having some care at home they tend to think about things like preparing meals, help with personal care and general help around the house. Home care can be so much more than this and can significantly improve the quality of people’s lives as they age rather than just covering the essentials. It might cost a little more to have a CareGiver spend more time with you or a loved one but the benefits can be priceless.
Keeping up with friends and hobbies
As we age our lives change, we may give up some of our hobbies or pastimes, perhaps stop visiting friends we used to see. The thought of travel may be off putting, or we might feel that we cannot manage it all. Sometimes, we don’t find things to replace what we have stopped doing and we end up spending too much time at home with not enough going on to keep us enjoying life. That is when a little bit of help and encouragement is required…
Finding out about local groups
A good care team will have experience of working with elderly people and have knowledge of the local community. As they work with their clients they will learn about them and be able to find ways to enhance their lives in a proactive way. They will be able to identify things that might challenge their client a bit but will help that person get back to enjoying life. It might mean getting back to doing a hobby or pastime that was enjoyed in the past or trying something completely new. It could be getting involved in a local group or activity that the client or family was not even aware of.
It is so important to stay active and social as we age; there is clear evidence that inactivity is bad for us both physically and mentally. Here at Right at Home we love to help our clients stay as healthy as we can and staying active and social is a big part of that.
If you feel that you or your loved one would benefit from spending a bit of time with one of our team to be more active then do get in touch now.
Two examples of how Right at Home has helped clients
- David had become pretty much housebound due to a loss of mobility and of confidence to venture out. The care team identified that he would benefit from a new reclining chair and with the support of the office arranged and persuaded him to go on a trip to find one. This small change has led to an ongoing improvement in David’s wellbeing and a more active lifestyle. Read more here…
- Margaret used to love gardening, arranging a regular visit to allow her to spend some time gardening with a bit of support really improved her wellbeing. Read more here…
