Reducing social isolation with Right at Home GF

Published: 30/12/2024

There was an abundance of Christmas spirit on show at Right at Home GF’s party for older people.

Around 30 people from the Farnham community accepted the invitation to come along for a live performance of carols and Christmas songs by the ladies’ acapella singing group In Accord. This was followed by a festive feast of sweet treats, hot chocolate and mulled wine and a raffle which saw three guests each going home with a lovely hamper.

Liz Young, Right at Home’s Marketing & Recruitment Manager says: “Being socially active is one factor that can help to reduce the risk of developing dementia. It is for this reason that we take our responsibility as a home care provider a step further and organise a range of community groups. These groups provide opportunities for older people to remain physically and mentally active and to engage in social interactions. Our groups include Love to Move and Inclusive Cricket for exercise, Singing for the Mind for general wellbeing and the Sunflower Cafes for meeting and making new friends. We are looking forward to welcoming more new people to our community groups in 2025. Full details about when and where the groups are held can be found on our website.”

A number of volunteers help to run the Sunflower Café in Farnham including Chris and David who have been helping out for six years and Claire and Linda who have been volunteering for three years. To thank them for their service, all four were presented with awards and received a warm round of applause from everybody at the party.
