Right at Home staff are real GEMS
Published: 09/11/2020
Right at Home GF has been celebrating the extra efforts of 10 members of staff who have brought sparkle to the lives of their clients and colleagues by going the extra mile.
“The Going the Extra Mile (GEM) scheme is our way of recognising the extra care and commitment staff put into their work. The scheme highlights the impact that has on clients’ quality of life and the benefits colleagues feel when they too are supported,” says Alastair Shanks, Managing Director of Right at Home GF.
“Our most recent GEM of the Month is Anita, a fantastic live-in carer who recently supported two clients at the end of their lives. Her compassion, professionalism and ability to work with others made the experience as good as it could be for the clients and their families. I’m looking forward to awarding Anita her GEM certificate.”
CareGiver Sangeeta was nominated by her colleagues when she supported a client to get her garden back to how she wanted. It gave her client a new lease of life and put the smile back on her face.
Sometimes small changes have a big effect on clients. CareGiver Lesley takes the time to get to know her clients and regularly goes the extra mile. Having discovered her client likes to play dominoes, she bought a set and regularly plays the game with her. The family has fed back how much she enjoys playing and the improvement it has made to her enjoyment of life.
Supporting colleagues is important, too. Senior CareGiver Leanne stepped-up at short notice to cover a weekend on call, which she did really well. This enabled the office team to continue work as normal and gave a colleague a much-needed weekend off.
Right at Home’s most recent GEMs are: Hayley Thaysen, Mary Archibald, Anita Fletcher, Alison Medlock, Lesley Dunstan, Emily Chapman-Connor, Jane Pink and Caz Thomas, Sangeeta Badiga, Leanne Henchy, Gill Toothill.
