Scavenging for clues
Published: 08/06/2023
Local people living with dementia and their carers recently took part in a special scavenger hunt which was organised by Right at Home GF for people living with dementia.
The walk formed part of the Farnham Walking Festival programme and was designed to be inclusive and to connect people with nature.
The scavenger hunt took place in Farnham Park where participants were challenged to find a range of objects including something orange, odd shoes and a number. Scavenger hunters were encouraged to take a selfie of themselves with the items.
Liz Young, Business Development and Marketing Manager at Right at Home GF says: “Dementia can lead to feelings of isolation and disconnection which is why we place great importance on providing opportunities for social interaction.
“The scavenger hunt offered multiple benefits in that it stimulated people’s memories, got people physically active and into nature which helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Most importantly, the walk was good fun and gave a sociable way for people to meet others who understand the challenges of living with dementia.
“We are grateful to the Mayor of Farnham for coming along and supporting the event and helping us build a more dementia friendly community.”
