Shouting loud for social care

Social care plays a vital role in enabling older people and those with disabilities to live life well which in turn supports healthcare services and the wider community.
To help shine a spotlight on the role of social care, Right at Home GF is joining in a campaign which has been organised by Surrey Care Trust to ‘Shout loud for social care’.
On Friday 24 January from 11am to 12noon, Right at Home will open its doors to members of the public who want to know more about the options for providing care for a loved one at home.
The hour-long session will begin with a presentation by Alastair Shanks who is Right at Home GF’s Managing Director. He will explain how, with the right care and support in place, an ageing family member or somebody who has a progressive disease such as dementia can stay in their own home for longer.
Visitors will also have chance to take part in a unique and immersive dementia simulation so they can experience and better understand the physical and sensory impairments commonly associated with dementia.
Alastair Shanks says: “Every day and hour of the week, we have caregivers out in the community enabling older people to fulfil their wish to remain living at home. From a little assistance with cleaning or shopping to help with personal care and medication our wonderful and dedicated caregivers are making a difference.
“NHS services are under such pressure that taking preventative action to keep people out of hospital has never been more important. This is exactly what the unsung heroes of social care are doing every day and is why I’m so proud to be part of this wonderful and rewarding sector.”
Anybody who would like to attend Alastair’s talk is asked to register by emailing liz.young@rightathomegf.co.uk.
