Right at Home Caregiver Natasha was honoured to accompany veteran Fred to a VJ Day commemoration on Saturday (15 August) at Ghurka Square in Fleet.
The event was organised by the Fleet, Crookham & District branch of the Royal British Legion and marked exactly 75 years since Japan surrendered and the Second World War ended.
Natasha says: “Fred served in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. He was a ground wireless operator in the RAF from 1941 until he was demobbed in 1946 so it meant a lot to him to be able to attend this commemoration. It was really quite an emotional and magical occasion – lots of people came up to Fred and thanked him for their freedom and his service.
“During the service Fred received a special mention and a round of applause. I felt so privileged to attend with Fred and was really touched when he later described it as the most memorable day of his life.”
