Why I Care

Alastair Shanks, owner of Right at Home GF is bucking the trend in a world which focuses on “me first”. He explains why this matters in Farnham, Guildford and surrounding towns.
When it comes to receiving homecare, you need to know you can really trust the people providing your care. From the carers you invite into your home and personal space, to the staff in the office and the business owner themselves. You want to know that they all have your best interests at heart.
I believe this is vitally important. Since launching Right at Home GF in 2012 it has always been important to me to keep that family feel to the business – building a team of people who know they can rely on each other. I’m proud of all our team and the respect that they show each other. It’s clear that they trust in each other and, as a result, our clients and their families feel safe, reassured and happy.
My Mum is living with Motor Neuron Disease and although she and my Dad are amazing and currently she is not having any outside care or support I know that she is likely to in the future. I know exactly the sort of people that I would like to be involved in supporting her, not just the front line care staff but also the office team who often go unrecognised but play a vital role in ensuring an individual’s care needs are met.
Our CareGivers at Right at Home GF are trained to the highest standard and see Clients as part of their own family. They regularly go the extra mile for their Clients, baking a birthday cake, taking the dog for a walk or maybe joining in some daily exercises. Marie discovered that one of her Clients, Margaret, loved gardening. She was able to support her to get back to doing something she loved. Helping Margaret to be more active and to do something she loved greatly improved her wellbeing. Read more about Margaret and Marie.
Our Clients are our number one priority. Our trusted team of CareGivers and our fantastic office team are encouraged to take the time to actually get to know our Clients, their likes and dislikes and their own day-to-day routine. This is how we really make a difference to our Clients’ lives.
We have asked our team to tell us why they care – what they love about working in care. The response has been fantastic – you can see Karen’s thoughts below and many more.
