How to Arrange Homecare:

A Step-by-Step Guide to Getting the Support You Need

Published: 15/04/2025

Arranging homecare can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’re considering support for yourself or a loved one, understanding the process and knowing what to expect can make all the difference. At Right at Home, omeHomHHhhh we’re committed to making your homecare journey as easy and comfortable as possible. In this guide, we’ll walk you through each step of the process—from your first phone call to the ongoing support you’ll receive.

How Do I Arrange Homecare?

Just give us a call!

We’re a friendly and approachable team, here to make your homecare journey as smooth and stress-free as possible. From the very first phone call, we’re here to support you and your family every step of the way.

What Can You Help With?

During our visits, we can support you with a range of day-to-day tasks, including:

  • Personal care (help with washing and dressing)
  • Meal preparation
  • Medication support
  • Light household chores
  • Community visits — whether it’s a trip to the GP, shopping, attending a group, or simply enjoying time at a local park, garden centre or café.

How Do You Know What I Need?

We’ll come to visit you for a Care Assessment.
Before that, we’ll ask a few simple questions over the phone to get an idea of your needs. This helps us make the most of our visit, so we can take time to get to know you properly.

We usually arrange the Care Assessment within a couple of days of your initial phone call.

How Will My Carers Know What I Want?

After your Care Assessment, we’ll create a person-centred Care Plan tailored to you. This includes all the things you’ve told us you need — and just as importantly, how you’d like that care to be given.

We’ll also create a visit routine that your care team will follow, ensuring consistency and familiarity. Both your Care Plan and visit routine are live documents — which means they can be quickly updated as your needs or preferences change.

When Will I Meet My Carers?

We’ll introduce your carers personally the first time they visit — so you’ll never be opening the door to a stranger.

Our visits start at a minimum of one hour, with longer visits available if you’d prefer. This gives our carers enough time to support you properly, without making you feel rushed. Our goal is never to take over — it's to help you stay as independent as possible.

How Soon Can You Start?

We can usually begin supporting you within a week of your first phone call, and within a few working days of your Care Assessment. This gives us time to build your Care Plan and match you with the carers best suited to your needs.

How Will My Family Know I’m Getting the Support I Need?

With your consent, your loved ones can have access to view your care visits. This allows them to stay updated on how you're doing day to day.

We also carry out regular reviews with you (and your family if you’d like) to ensure your Care Plan continues to meet your needs and wishes.
