No day is the same for Nickki at Right at Home Havant & Petersfield. She manages the scheduling and helps match clients and care team members, making sure everyone is happy, looked after and where they need to be.
Nickki supports our team of CareGivers through regular check-ins, ensuring any incidents that do occur are properly logged, reported and managed – putting measures in place to avoid them happening again. “I have complete trust in my team,” she explained. “We always sit down and discuss any incidents or issues and learn from them; our goal is to avoid making the same mistake twice.”
The rest of her days involve attending meetings, preparing documentation for the CQC, developing care assessments, writing care plans and fulfilling a raft of other responsibilities to keep things running smoothly and in line with regulations.

But it’s the people, not the paperwork, that are the real reason she’s worked in the care industry since she turned 18. “I started doing home care for the local authority in West Sussex for what was supposed to be a summer job, but ended up staying with them for nearly 30 years, working my way up to being a registered manager.” she explained.
From there Nickki moved into training with the local authority and then worked for a private community care provider in Worthing, before joining our team.
“I am particularly passionate about end of life care,” she continued. “Making sure we are doing everything we can for our clients and going the extra mile for them in their later years is so important. I love spending time with them and hearing their stories. Whether they worked at Bletchley during the War or tested knitting patterns before they were printed and released to the public, or ultimately knitted items for the Royal Family, they have fascinating experiences to share. I learn something from them every day.”
When she’s not a work, Nickki finds solace with Cosmo, her five year old ex-racehorse. “I visit him every morning before I come to the office and every evening after work. Seven days a week, rain or shine. He helps me unwind,” she said. “Cosmo make no demands and is a great listener – I can tell him whatever I like. He helps keep me sane and relaxed. It’s my form of meditation.”
