Most of us have lasting memories of where we learned to swim.  For many of us as children, it wasn’t just about the swim.  It was the joy of spending time splashing around with family or friends, and working up an appetite for the chips in the pool cafe!  Many Ipswich locals will remember enjoyable times at their local pool, often either Broomhill or Fore Street in Ipswich.

We enjoyed reading Roy Gladwell’s account of his time spent at Broomhill Pool.  Now in his 90’s, Roy’s evocative memories of the times with friends at Broomhill (first visiting when it opened before the outbreak of WW2) is well worth a read.

Broomhill closed in 2002, but there are plans for the 1938 Art Deco lido to be rebuilt and operated as an outdoor pool and fitness centre.
