The Key Questions to ask any Care Provider
Published: 02/08/2020
Apart from the rewarding aspect of introducing a CareGiver and putting the right support in place to help someone remain independent in their home, as one of the Directors at Right at Home, I really enjoy meeting people! I’ve been fortunate enough to both listen and speak at family carer events, care home coffee mornings, dementia awareness workshops, and older persons’ groups over the years.
Whether someone is considering domiciliary homecare, live-in care or residential – since 2012 – we’ve shared the 10 key ‘open’ questions someone should ask any care provider, when they’re considering support for them-self or a loved one. We’ve also shared the answers we think someone should receive to their key questions – answers which should be clear, informative and specific. For example:
What type of person do you employ to be a carer with you? How do you choose the right people? If a care provider cannot tell you about their recruitment and referencing process, and importantly the qualities they look for in their team members, it could be they are hiring anyone and everyone.
Other key questions include:
What training do you give your staff?
How do you monitor the performance of your carers?
How do you manage your staffing? What is your staff turnover?
How can you assure it will be the same carers supporting my family member?
We’re pleased people have found the 10 Key Questions and Model Answers helpful, so have made them available to family carers and professionals by calling 01473 561212 or emailing claire.percy@rightathomeuk.com
