Right at Home Isle of Wight holds Christmas dinner for people who would be lonely on Christmas day

Christmas Day can be a worrying and lonely time for so many. Vicky and Paul at Right at Home, decided to host a Community Christmas party to welcome guests who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day. A 3-course festive lunch, a raffle and entertainment were on the agenda and most importantly companionship.
Meetings were held with local businesses to arrange how this idea would become a reality.
Paul at Frampton’s Bar kindly offered to donate their kitchen and chef Johnny for the occasion. Paul was pleased that someone would help him peel all the potatoes!
Offers of food & drinks along with money came flooding in, which was truly amazing. The Village Hall was booked and the preparations got underway.
The scope of hosting an event such as this is vast, but the excitement at organising something for the community was high.
The attendee list grew as did the vegetable order…kindly donated by Jane at The Farm Shop.
Children at Bembridge Primary School set about making Christmas cards for the guests.
Word started to spread and willing volunteers offered their help.
The big day was fast approaching, and raffle prizes were sorted, place names written along with crockery, cutlery and glass wear collected.
Christmas Eve saw the village hall transformed into a Christmas Party setting, complete with beautiful floral table decorations supplied by Bembridge Flower Shop. We were all set to welcome 60 guests for a magical Christmas.
Vicky, Paul and a host of volunteers including Sharon Scully, our Business Support Manager, who had travelled from Liverpool, welcomed everyone.
The atmosphere was wonderful, and happy faces all round as everyone tucked into prawn cocktails (Supplied by Captain Stans), pate, roast turkey and pudding.
Maurice took to the stage to sing and tap dance, and a sing along followed. An impromptu choir was formed, led by a voiceless me! The raffle saw everyone leave with a prize.
Vicky won’t mind me saying how emotional she found the day, how heartwarming it was to gather people from different backgrounds and celebrate together. It was a beautiful day which we are sure to repeat, after the wonderful feedback we received.
We had so many donations of food and help, the community effort in helping make this event a reality was outstanding. We are incredibly grateful to everyone that was a part of the day.
