Summer recap

Published: 09/10/2024

As the weather begins to turn and the days slowly become darker, Right at Home Isle of Wight take a moment to look back at the last 6 months. 2024 has been a busy one with changes, celebrations and challenges to keep the team on their toes.

Let's take a look!

April

We welcomed in the warmer weather trying to break through. Right at Home Isle of Wight saw Frank the 4 legged visitor. He made sure the office was safe and comfortably chose his guarding post at Vicky's desk.

With the weather gently turning, client companionship calls began venturing outside, visits to Godshill for hot chocolate and cake were a welcome activity.

The push begins to kick off the Older Persons Good Living Show for the second time. Going bigger and better, there's lots of work to do.

And not forgetting the important event of Owner and Managing Director Pauls birthday!

May

With May day sparking conversations in the office of what we're really celebrating, Vicky brings in a photo album. She tells us she was a May Day Attendant and shows us photos of her dancing around the Maypole!

Further celebrations are in order when one of our Clients Gerry is invited as a guest of honor to see the reassembly progress of an RAF Hawker-Typhoon. During WW2 Gerry was ground crew in Holland and Germany for the RAF and worked on the Hawker-Typhoon fighter planes.

As the weather continues to warm up we see more outings, plenty of pictures are taken with big slices of cake with cups of tea.

As the month draws to a close, Right at Home Isle of Wight are proud to receive a 5 Star employer award for the second year in a row from WorkBuzz.

June

It's been a busy year and so the girls deserve a pamper, the lovely Alison from Tropics Skincare comes in for an afternoon to give our girls hand massages and face treatments.

The team begins to grow and so Right at Home Isle of Wight continue to advertise for CareGivers and carry out plenty of interviews.

The long awaited Second Office opening happens! The Bembridge office had become a little bit cramped with the growing team. With new furniture and a fresh paint the Shanklin office is open and ready for Paul and Lucy to base themselves.

July

Dementia Afternoon Tea is still ticking over, with a variety of activities each month, July see's the Baked Beans seated exercises to get everybody moving.

CareGiver Nicki is the first social media appearance in Right at Home Isle of Wight's staff recognitions. Although celebrated every staff meeting, why not further shout about our wonderful staff and take it social media too!

Clients continue to enjoy the warmer weather, reconnecting with old friends, watching the horses and getting in the kitchen to bake cakes.

The biggest Celebration of them all this year. Our Gerry turns 100!

August

A busy month for Right at Home Isle of Wight with the Older Persons Good Living Show. The one-stop-shop for accessing information to live retirement years at home. Months in the making lead up to August 17th and then it was over in a blink of an eye. But it wasn't long before Marketing and Community Engagement Coordinator, Lucy, was looking to plan 2025.

The beautiful weather was hanging around and so Clients and their CareGivers continue to make the most of the weather.

Be an Angel Day was a day dedicated to spreading positivity and kindness. We had helping neighbours, make rounds of tea and even making an effort to reduce the road rage! It was a chance to celebrate those small acts of kindness.

September

We start becoming aware that this lovely weather may not be hanging around for much longer. But with British Heart Foundations Steptember challenge, it means we were encouraged to get out and get the steps in. Right at Home Isle of Wight made the goal for 60,000 steps over the month.

Marketing and Community Engagement Coordinator Lucy goes to visit the West Wight Dementia Friendly Choir with Rose, they sing fun songs and even got to play some instruments too. The group had a very large turn out - even though they said it was a quieter month for them!

September is Arreton Cricket Club's End of Summer Fair, over 60 games of Higher and Lower were played with only 2 winners during the day, it gives a chance to talk about Right at Home Isle of Wight and the Dementia Afternoon Tea Club. With the added bonus of the Dog Show, it meant lots of doggy cuddles were had too.

Vicky and Paul attend annual conference, whilst there, they are surprised with an award. Right at Home Isle of Wight are winners of the National Franchisee Awards!

By the end of the month, the Steptember Challenge is complete, the team smashed the goal achieving a whopping 119,789 steps. CareGiver Kerrin gave a big push with the lovely Marion and Gwen, regularly getting out whether it was for a beach walk and icecream or going blackberry picking.

October welcomes us with grey weather and rain, with a few sunny moments to brighten our day.

For the hardy, they don the hats and coats and go for a walk. Most of us are finding ourselves in a cosy café already with a hot chocolate. The slow cookers are prepared with our Clients help and we get the cake recipes ready for afternoons in the warm kitchen.

Dementia Afternoon Tea Club continues through the winter with themes coming up of Halloween, Remembrance and of course Christmas!

The Right at Home Isle of Wight office team have begun dusting off the office heaters and shall be stocking up on the teabags.

We are ready for the winter and fondly look back on the summer we've had.
