Farhana knew from an early age that she wanted to help people.

At school, she studied for qualifications in Childcare and Early Years Learning, which led her starting her own childminder service for a few years.

Farhana took a break to have her own children. Coming back to the world of work, she was encouraged by a CareGiver friend to give CareGiving a go. Her friend felt that she had the right personality for it. Farhana has an empathetic, caring, and patient personality, built from lots of experience caring for her grandparents, and then her parents as they became older.

Some of our best CareGivers are those that have cared for their own family members.

Farhana’s favourite thing about care is the positive reactions of whoever she is caring for; something that may be an everyday task for you could seem like a milestone for someone who, for example, has a lack of mobility. Farhana loves how rewarding it is to help someone become more independent or meet their needs.

Farhana hasn’t been with us for long, but she is apt for the role, she knows what person-centred care is and tailors her communication style to the person she is visiting.

As Right at Home we always try and encourage our clients to get out of their homes and Farhana manages to do this with a gusto. She regularly takes one of our clients to her Sikh Gurdwara temple. Takes another lady for a full day out, including a salon visit, and then out for lunch at a local café. Sometimes some of clients haven’t been out since COVID, and we always want them to find their sense of fun and adventure. Farhana’s personality manages to make clients feel safe and get out and explore.

Farhana was unaware that CareGiving could be such a rewarding career path before starting. Now she is in love with caring for people; she helps them become independent and do tasks they may not be able to do otherwise, and she gets to know she’s done something positive that will be appreciated.
