Markfield is within the borough of Hinckley & Bosworth and lies within Charnwood Forest and the National Forest. It is first mentioned in the Doomsday book under the name of Merchenefeld.
Markfield’s Parish Church is St Michaels and all Angels, there are two other churches one being the Holy Trinity Methodist Chapel and the other the Congregational church.
Markfield is known for having close links with the Methodist church and it is reported that the church founder, John Wesley, visited the Markfield on a dozen occasions. The original Methodist Chapel is no longer in use.
Hill Hole Nature Reserve was created from an old granite quarry and which is partially flooded, it is a diverse habitat with wooded and grassland areas. Adjacent to this reserve is the Blacksmiths Fields nature reserve.
Markfield has a variety of small high-street and independent shops cafes and takeaways, hairdressing salons, a library, a cafe, as well as two public houses and a community centre.
